How a round goes

Thirty seconds. The hoop — backboard, rim and net — sweeps left and right above your lane, and every press sends a ball straight up. There is most of a second between shots, so it is a game of timing, not of mashing.

A ball that fits through the ring drops clean: a swish. One that clips the inside of the rim can still roll in; one that clips the outside kicks away. Wide of the ring, the ball meets the backboard and comes back down towards the middle — the bank shot.

Scoring and winning

One point per basket, swish or not. Most baskets wins; ties share.

With four players and the team row on, stations 1 and 3 play 2 and 4, adding their baskets together.

Tips

  • The sweep speeds up as the round goes on; shoot a touch early rather than late.
  • About two makes in five go in off the iron — a rattle is not a miss until it drops out.
  • Three baskets in a row gets the crowd going.
