How a round goes

Thirty seconds. Stations 1 and 3 pull left, 2 and 4 pull right — teams form by seat, and every press is one pull for your side. A side's pulls move the knot the same amount whether it is one child or two, so two against one is a fair fight.

The knot slides back towards the middle on its own, about seven percent a second, so a burst bleeds away if you stop. A steadily faster side wins.

Scoring and winning

Drag the knot past your line and you win on the spot. At the buzzer the side ahead wins; a knot within a whisker of the middle is a draw.

Alone you pull against Robo, who pulls in bursts and lulls.

Tips

  • Two clean pulls a second gets the knot over in about twenty seconds; three does it in ten.
  • It gets loud. Not the game — the children.
